Turning Over Stones

Lynne and Ted Levey have been hosting parties of young school children to Sunderland Point each year for at least the last decade. We think what they do is brilliant, not only does it introduce the children to the wonders of the shoreline but for most of them it will be a first look round the Point. We asked Lynne to tell us about it and share a few photos

Children have always enjoyed wandering round Sunderland Point. Whether it’s peering under big stones to discover the mini world beneath, searching for treasure that the tide has washed up or just throwing stones into the water, the magical combination of water and shoreline never ceases to fascinate.

We have been happily welcoming school parties for many years, and in all weathers. Children from Reception to Year 6 have had an enjoyable and educational visit learning about the River Lune, the environment, climate change and local history. We have even re-enacted the children’s story of “The Lighthouse keeper’s Lunch with Reception class, complete with naughty seagulls and Mustard Sandwiches!

In conjunction with Morecambe Bay Partnership some children enjoyed making pinhole camera photographs with local photographer Darren Andrews.
